About the Opportunity

MADEC is seeking a passionate and culturally aware Indigenous Education Mentor to support students in the Indigenous Youth Leadership Program. This role provides tailored academic assistance through one-on-one and small group tutoring, helping students build confidence, stay engaged, and successfully complete Year 12. This role is offered on a fixed-term basis, concluding in June 2026.

Job Description

You'll work closely with students, families, schools, and program staff to deliver culturally responsive support that encourages educational achievement and future pathways.

About You

To be considered for this position, candidates must be able to meet the below Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated client-focused approach in service provision Experience in education, mentoring, or youth work of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within our communities;
  • Demonstrated experience in a secondary tutoring or education
  • Communicate, consult and liaise with relevant professionals, clients, staff and community members to achieve identified organisational objectives and goals;
  • Demonstrated understanding of the unique issues effecting and impacting upon the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team to achieve agreed goals and deadlines;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Candidates must hold a current Working with Children Check (relevant to their state or territory) and a National Police Check, or be willing to obtain both.

In addition to the above, the desirable criteria are:

  • The person identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and is acknowledged as such by their community;
  • Demonstrated experience in a Social & Emotional Wellbeing environments
  • Familiarity of secondary school attainment requirements (e.g. SACE)
