About the Role
As Senior Accountant, you will lead a small, experienced Finance Team and be responsible for the company's financial statements, general ledger, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, budgeting, and tax compliance. You will oversee the Finance team's workload, ensuring timely completion of tasks such as taxation reporting and end-of-financial-year activities. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing monthly payroll, leave accruals, superannuation, and salary sacrifice arrangements.
- Overseeing invoicing, payment processing, and bank payments.
- Handling all taxation matters (Payroll Tax, GST, Company Tax, BAS, IAS, PAYG, FBT, TPAR).
- Preparing end-of-month reconciliations, journals, and maintaining balance sheet and profit & loss statements.
- Producing management quarterly reports, budget reports, and annual financial reports.
- Advising on new business lines and supporting new verticals in Accounting and Finance.
- Ensuring business compliance with state, territory, and (occasionally) international requirements.
- Supporting business operations, including client timesheet, invoice, and travel procedures.
- Managing external audits and assigning tasks within the team.
- Monitoring shared admin account emails and maintaining confidentiality.
- Occasional travel within Canberra and interstate may be required.
The Successful Candidate
To excel in this role, you will need:
- Accountant certification (preferably CA or CPA).
- 5+ years' accounting experience in a small/medium business environment.
- Strong understanding of finance processes and accounting software (MYOB desirable).
- Advanced Excel spreadsheet skills and high attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with staff and clients at all levels.
- Proven leadership skills, with experience mentoring junior staff.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, teamwork, and quality policies.
- Ability to work autonomously and maintain discipline in an unsupervised environment.
- Willingness to attend Whizdom meetings and industry events, and to undertake further training or certifications as required.
- Current driver's licence and vehicle, with flexibility to meet clients and customers as needed.
