About the Organisation
The St Vincent de Paul Society aspires to be recognised as a caring charity offering "a hand up" to people in need. We do this by respecting their dignity, sharing our hope, and encouraging them to take control of their own destiny.
Working within our Vision, Mission and Values, the St Vincent de Paul Society provides and operates a wide range of services across Tasmania, including emergency relief, transitional housing, NDIS supported workplaces, Youth programs, Vinnies and Loui's Vans and Vinnie's retail network, just to name a few. Now a company limited by guarantee, St Vincent de Paul Society is led by a State Council and Board, following Catholic Social Teaching principles and our ways of working, The Vincentian Way.
The Role
As our current Chief Executive Officer prepares to step down, they leave behind a strong legacy of newly created opportunities, cultural alignment and a solid and experienced executive team. With this solid foundation, a new Strategic Plan in place and strong momentum across the organisation, we are offering a rare chance for a passionate, values-aligned and strategic leader to take St Vincent de Paul Society into its next chapter.
This is a hands-on leadership role where advocacy, operational management, and community outcomes intersect. As CEO, you will be the primary link between the community, government, funding and peak bodies. Overseeing business functions, responsible for strategic plan implementation, governance, financial management, sustainability and workforce leadership. You will manage media to strategically benefit the organisation, oversee the delivery of major projects, funding opportunities, organisational growth, risk management and general operations. The role balances operational leadership with hands-on engagement, advocacy, and relationship-building.
About You
You are a purpose-driven, values-led executive with CEO or equivalent experience, who is deeply committed to social justice and improving the lives of people experiencing disadvantage. You bring not only strategic insight, but also understand the complexities and challenges faced by individuals and families who turn to St Vincent de Paul Society for support.
You lead with humility, respect and compassion, creating safe, inclusive environments where dignity is upheld, and every person is seen without judgment. People are at the heart of your leadership, whether they are staff, volunteers, Members, or the communities you serve.
You combine this with a clear ability to turn strategy into action. An experienced implementor, you follow through on commitments and bring structure, accountability and discipline to achieving results. With exceptional communication, strong financial, governance and stakeholder skills, you manage media and political situations to create advantage and are equally at ease guiding complex operations as you are engaging with someone at their most vulnerable.
Critically, you are aligned with the Mission, Vision and Values of the St Vincent de Paul Society and are experienced in working closely with a Board to implement strategic plans while maintaining financial and operational accountability.
How to Apply
If you are ready to lead a mission-based organisation and to make a tangible difference to community members across Tasmania , please contact Sharon Miller on for a confidential discussion and a recruitment information pack.
