The role and organisation

The National Automobile Museum of Tasmania Ltd is an ACNC registered Not-For-Profit (NFP) automobile museum operating in Launceston Tasmania, which showcases a world class encapsulation of rich automotive history, passion and intrigue for thousands of visitors each year. Operating within the constantly shifting and upgrading area near the Invermay waterfront in Launceston, NAMT touts world-class Net Promoter Scores consistently over 74%. NAMT is powered by a compact and tenured operational team delivering popular car shows, a thriving storefront, and a display of over 120 vehicles provided by a range of varied exhibitors.

The role is to join the current volunteer board of directors, with members with tenure and a wealth of knowledge from the inception of the museum through to recent members with fresh ideas and experience. The museum is looking at undertaking significant changes in its infrastructure, grant acquisitions, and capital spending within the coming years and is excited to intake a fresh face with new skills, passions, and ideas.

Experience in branding, multi-media channels including online presence, and promoting events/exhibitions for the Tasmanian local and tourist consumer domain.

Grant and political outreach experience

Expertise in engaging with government and council, tourism authorities, and local politicians to acquire grant funding and partnerships for NFP entities, ideally Tasmania centric.

Soft Skills:

Innovation OrientationUnderstands current technology and cultural landscapes, suggesting practical additions to NAMT infrastructure and operations to uplift performance, resilience, and increase foresight.

Collaborative Negotiation and Constructive Inquiry

Can contribute to board discussions through thoughtful, strategic, and challenging questions and outlooks; ensuring all options are considered to ensure the best outcome for the organisation through collaboration nature. Is not argumentative and respects other board members opinions and time to speak.

Commitments and expectations:

Accountability for Time Commitments

Plays a key part in the NAMT board by committing time to execute action items in a timely manner.

Preparation and Proactive Engagement

Engages with all pre-meeting material and contributes to discussions informed, prepared, and ready.

Follow-through and Decision Accountability

Helps execute an essential role within the board, assisting with decision monitoring and regular check-ins for large and small operational and governance decisions.

Other expectations:

· Availability on the second Wednesday of each month at ~18:00 for in person or online meetings. Reasonable level of in person attendance expected.

· RSVP for meetings in a timely manner, and monitors communication lines.

· Can effectively use Microsoft Office 365, especially Outlook & Calendar, Word, Teams, and SharePoint.

· AICD membership preferable.

Visits to the museum are very welcome.

This position is a volunteer role and comes with no associated salary or benefits.
