Primary objective

To provide a collaborative and supportive mental health consultancy and liaison service for those living in remote communities who are

identified as having a severe and persistent mental illness.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide mental health assessment and support within the framework of an integrated service, including hospital and remote

community settings, utilising a multi-disciplinary approach to service delivery.

2. Provide consultation and liaison services, as well as a range of interventions necessary to support people affected by significant mental

health illness, including support for carers and significant others.

3. Participate in collaborative partnerships in service delivery with relevant agencies, including remote health clinics, community

organisations, consumers and carers to support people in remote communities and promote mental health and wellbeing.

4. Participate in the development and review of policies and protocols, continuous quality improvement activities and service delivery in

line with the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.

  1. Participate in professional development activities, clinical supervision and evidence-based practice models to provide effective

outcomes for consumers and carers.

6. Provide accurate and timely data collection, record keeping, report writing and other administrative tasks as required.

7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Recognised degree in Mental Health Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, with registration to practice with the

Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Psychologist or eligibility for

practicing membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

  1. Demonstrated competence as an advanced mental health practitioner and an ability to demonstrate a range of post graduate

employment experiences relevant to working with people with moderate-severe mental health difficulties.

  1. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously in a team and effectively organise own workload, with capacity to work effectively as a

member of a multidisciplinary team.

  1. Demonstrated working knowledge of contemporary mental health models of care and the NSQHS Standards.

  2. Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with relevant agencies, health services, community

organisations, consumers and carers within the framework of integrated service delivery.

6. Demonstrated experience engaging and supporting people from diverse backgrounds.

  1. Current NT Drivers Licence or ability to obtain prior to commencement.
  2. Ability and willingness to travel extensively by 4WD and/or light plane throughout Central Australia and be prepared to work flexible

hours including overnight trips to remote communities.

Desirable

1. Postgraduate qualifications in mental health

2. Experience working remotely with Aboriginal people from Central Australia.
