The Night-Left Economy Commissioner is responsible for developing and assisting partnerships to encourage growth and sustainability of the thousands of local businesses which drive the industry and promote and strengthen development opportunities for more established venues and events. The Commissioner provides insights into the sector to Local, State and Federal Governments to ensure policies impacting night-life are designed to be fit for purpose. This work is undertaken with the support of the Office of the Night-Life Economy Commissioner to ensure the strength of Queensland's night-life offerings in the lead up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

What you will be doing:

• Provide sound and timely advice on issues impacting the night-life to inform policy, program and project development.

• Undertake policy research and analysis to support evidence informed strategic policy advice and inform legislative development. 

• Maintain and build productive working relationships with the night-life sector and Queensland Government to advance night-life policy outcomes and objectives.

• Collaborate with Queensland Government departments and other identified delivery partners to implement initiatives and monitor implementation of initiatives in the Night-Life Economy Strategy.

• Prepare written materials and communications about night-life policy, legislation and reform, including briefs, correspondence, reports, submissions, proposals, presentations and development materials. 

• Work effectively as a member of a team to support and deliver projects and tasks, including by providing project management and administrative support. 

• Support and help maintain a workplace safety culture by ensuring that all policies and practices concerning Workplace Health and Safety are applied and a part of day-to-day operations.

The skills you will need include:

• Proven research and analytical ability and demonstrated capability in gathering information to advise on policy and legislation. 

• Superior written and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain productive relationships, communicate, negotiate, influence, network and consult with internal and external stakeholders. 

• Proven ability to work collaboratively with team members and complete tasks by managing priorities and managing tight deadlines. 

• The ability to successfully use research, analysis and judgement to provide quality advice and inform decision-making on complex economic and social policy issues, and industry regulation. 

• Demonstrated personal responsibility in meeting objectives, including the ability to recognise and resolve issues impacting on the achievement of desired outcomes.

Mandatory Requirement

• While there are no mandatory qualifications for this role, sound knowledge, skills or experience of economic and social policy issues, reform and/or legislative processes is highly desirable.
