The Role & The Organisation
Our client, a State Government organisation, are searching for a Senior Policy Officer (AO6) to join their team in Brisbane. In this role you will provide policy advice on complex State revenue and related issues and contribute to the delivery of the organisation's legislative program.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop policy proposals in relation to Queensland revenue laws to enable the organisation to meet its business objectives.
- Analyse and review the application of Queensland revenue laws and other relevant legislation to changing commercial circumstances including opportunities for revenue avoidance and evasion.
- Identify provisions which require amendment and make appropriate submissions.
- Instruct, consult and negotiate on the drafting of revenue legislation to ensure the organisation meets its organisational objectives.
- Analyse and compare revenue legislation of other jurisdictions for continuous improvement to ensure the organisation achieves best practice.
- Prepare briefings, submissions, reports, correspondence, and where relevant, consult on the implementation of recommended outcomes.
- Appraise and review performance of people and act as mentor/coach (as necessary) to facilitate their continued development.
- Ensure compliance with recordkeeping standards while managing timely, accurate and complete information to enable smarter decision making.
About You
- A high-level ability to accurately interpret and apply legislation and case law.
- A well-developed understanding of commercial and administrative law and practice.
- High-level ability to contribute to the development of policy and legislation, including making sound, logical and appropriate recommendations.
- Thinks critically and acts on the broader purpose of the system.
- Makes considered, ethical and courageous decisions based on insight into the broader context.
- Builds and sustains relationships to enable the collaborative delivery of customer-focussed outcomes.
- Demonstrates accountability for the execution and quality of results through professionalism, persistence and transparency.
- Maintains a high standard of practice through governance and risk management.
Legal qualifications will be highly regarded. 2-3 years work experience in either a legal advisory (private sector, government legal, government internal review) or government legislative policy development environment desirable.
