Primary objective
Work collaboratively to provide a broad range of administrative and secretarial services to support student wellbeing and
inclusion programs in partnership with families, community, and professional networks to achieve optimal educational
outcomes for students with additional needs.
Context statement
Girraween Primary School is part of the Top End region and has a current enrolment of 360 students from Preschool to Year
6, comprising of 40% of students with disability. Girraween includes a well-attended Out of School Hours Care (OSHC)
program. Girraween is committed to having a focus on general capabilities, inquiry learning and explicit teaching in literacy
and numeracy. The school values connected learning in specialist programs, offering Indonesian, PE, STEM and the Arts. The
Girraween school community has a strong commitment to living and working sustainably.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Actively participate, as a team member, in the planning, preparation, implementation and assessment of individualised
educational programs in preschool and primary school settings.
- Develop and effectively maintain appropriate working relationships with students with disability, families and work
colleagues whilst maintaining confidentiality.
3. Manage and complete a range of administrative tasks in a timely manner.
4. Create classroom/student resources for individualised plans to support classroom teachers.
5. Initiate, prioritise and perform work tasks, under limited supervision and in a reliable manner, whilst adhering to school
and DOE policies in an environment of ongoing change and pressure, where student and staff safety are paramount.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated successful knowledge of and experience working with and relating to primary school students with
learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively using various communication strategies and appropriate interpersonal skills
with children who have a diverse range of disabilities.
3. Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively and communicating effectively to support productive partnerships.
- Demonstrated experience in undertaking a range of administrative tasks by meeting timeframes whilst working under
pressure and in an environment of change.
