Primary objective

Lead a large team of authorised officers across multiple regions and provide high level strategic operational enrolment and

attendance advice to the Minister, Commonwealth and NT Governments, executive management and school staff on the

development, implementation and management of programs, projects and strategies to raise school attendance and hold parents

accountable in the NT.

Context statement

Student Attendance and Engagement Programs and Services is responsible for the implementation and management of a range of

Australian and Northern Territory Government initiatives focused on raising student attendance and engagement.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Lead a large team of authorised officers across multiple regions, responsible for the delivery of services aimed at increasing

attendance and engagement in NT Government schools.

  1. Actively manage interagency partnerships to ensure integrated service delivery across the NT.
  2. Develop and deliver management structures and activities that support planning, development, implementation and reporting.
  3. Provide high level written and verbal advice, including qualitative and quantitative information to executives and the Minister

regarding student attendance and engagement strategies, regionally and NT wide.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated senior experience in leading a large, geographically dispersed team responsible for the delivery of legislative

functions relating to education.

2. Demonstrated ability to effectively work with government and community partners for integrated service delivery to support

attendance and engagement in education.

3. Demonstrated high level analytical skills and the ability to respond creatively, strategically and innovatively to complex

challenges, including the ability to analyse and interpret complex student management data sets.

4. Demonstrated success in driving and leading a high-performance service culture in a changing environment with a clear focus

on contemporary best practice in student attendance and engagement or other youth program functions.

5. Demonstrated high level experience in leadership and management skills with the effective and efficient management of human,

financial and technological resources within a large and complex organisation.

6. High level understanding of the issues associated with student engagement, wellbeing and inclusion in the NT.

7. Demonstrated and current working experience in the implementation of the Education Act 2015 (NT) or the ability to quickly

acquire.

Desirable

1. Post-graduate qualifications in leadership/management or speciality practice area.
