The Role
The Management Accountant will provide support to the Head of Finance. They will be responsible for maintaining financial records and overseeing the financial operations of the company, including accounting, budgeting/ forecasting, risk management, financial reporting, and JSOX compliance. They will play a crucial role in supporting the company's strategic decision-making process and ensuring financial stability. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of mining industry, cost accounting, accounting methods, and financial regulations.
Responsibilities
• Reporting: Manage both internal and external reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc deliverables to the Group's parent company in Tokyo. Conduct internal month-end close processes, including cost accruals, provisions calculations, payroll reconciliations, cost analysis, and Trial Balance reviews.
• Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop annual budgets, adjust and reforecast as needed, track variance analysis, and report to management and stakeholders.
• Cashflow Management: Oversee cashflow management to ensure business and group requirements are met, including forecasting.
• Auditing: Coordinate external and internal audits, ensuring SOX and policy compliance. Support statutory audit preparations, including work papers and financial statements.
• Financial Records: Maintain financial records according to industry best practices, policies, and regulations.
• Banking Coordination: Work with banking operations to ensure accurate financial reporting at all stages of the banking process.
• Cost Analysis and Control: Monitor expenditure, identify efficiency opportunities, and develop cost models to support pricing strategies and operational decisions.
• Internal Audits: Conduct audits to ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
• Financial Reporting and Risk Analysis: Prepare financial reports and risk analysis for senior management, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
• Financial Planning: Participate in financial planning and budgeting processes, providing key financial insights to support decision-making.
• Policy Development: Contribute to the development of financial accounting policies and procedures.
• Cross-functional Support: Collaborate with cross-functional teams in forecasting, risk management, and controls.
About You
As the successful candidate you will possess:
• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Excellent communication and a strong team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with others
• Strong understanding of the mining industry, including cost control, project accounting, and compliance with relevant financial regulations
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, management accounting, financial reporting, and auditing practices
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related area
• CA or CPA certification
• Minimum 4 years of experience is required, with some of that experience specifically in the mining industry
• Prior experience in a Big 4 firm and strong audit expertise
• Experience in managing internal and external audit processes including J-SOX compliance and implementation
• Experience with Business Central and Business Dynamics, accounting software and financial modelling tools, and advanced Excel capabilities
• Experience with financial analysis, reconciliations, cashflow management, Risk management, management accounting, budgeting / forecasting and general ledger accounting
