We have an opportunity for an Mechanical Design Drafter to join our expanding team based at our Acacia Ridge premises.

About the Role

The Mechanical Design Drafter is responsible for creating detailed 2D drawings and 3D models to support the design, manufacture and assembly of Ausroad's specialised truck bodies and equipment. This role involves working closely with engineers, production team and suppliers to ensure that designs meet customer requirements, adhere to safety standards and are manufacturable.

Key Responsibilities Overview:

  • Drafting and Design:

    • Develop accurate 3D models and 2D drawings using Autodesk Inventor and manage data within Autodesk Vault.

    • Interpret sketches, specifications and technical data to create detailed manufacturing drawings. Maintain drawing registers and manage revisions effectively.

  • Process and Quality Control:

    • Conduct thorough checks of drawings to ensure accuracy and manufacturability.

    • Support quality assurance processes by providing accurate and up-to-date drawings

  • Collaboration and Communication:

    • Collaborate with internal departments (productions, planning, sales) to ensure seamless project execution.

    • Liaise with suppliers to obtain necessary component information.

  • Operational Efficiency and Continuous Improvement:

    • Indentify opportunities for process optimization and workflow improvements.

    • Assist with the development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOP's) related to drafting.

  • General Tasks:

    • Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the Engineering Manager.

    • Maintain compliance with safety, quality and environmental procedures.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Drafting or equivalent.

  • Proven minimum 3-years experience in design.

  • Experience in the design of trucks bodies, mining equipment or road maintenance vehicles.

  • Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor is essential

  • Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team

  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to risk management
