Primary objective

Reporting, analysing, and interpreting the department's school and system improvement data to inform program and policy

development, as well as the provision of data and insights for various internal reporting and external publications.

Context statement

The Evidence and Insights unit, within the Performance and Improvement team, is responsible for agency data assurance and

governance, reporting and performance, evidence and research, school and system improvement design, agency data analytics,

corporate governance and improvement frameworks. The team provides advice regarding school and system improvement, data

analytics, evidence and research, and conducts executive commissioned analysis to support key initiates aligned with the

department's strategic direction. The team facilitates access for quality research in schools that delivers benefit to students,

schools, and the system more broadly.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Deliver strategic data analytics to support the Performance and Improvement team, utilising advanced analytical methodologies

to inform evidence-based strategic decision making.

2. Collaborate effectively within the Evidence and Insights team to prepare reports, interactive dashboards, briefs, memorandums

and infographics that communicate school and system performance analytics to diverse stakeholder audiences.

3. Contribute to meaningful outcomes by assisting in the development and implementation of evidence-based school and system

improvement procedures aligned with strategic objectives.

4. Build productive relationships with key stakeholders, developing collaborative partnerships that promote a culture of

performance, accountability and improvement.

5. Demonstrate accountability by conducting rigorous data audits to ensure quality standards, making evidence-based

recommendations for continuous improvement and maintaining ethical data practices.

6. Think strategically and deliver results by assisting complex analysis and reporting projects that progress the agency's strategic

direction and organisational capability development.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. High level organisational skills including strategic time management, goal setting and meeting critical deadlines whilst

maintaining exceptional data quality standards.

2. Strong analytical capabilities to interpret insights from complex datasets/applies evidence-based research methodologies to

solve problems and inform strategic recommendations.

3. Demonstrated proficiency in contemporary data analysis tools, explores new analytical approaches to improve efficiency.

4. High level communication and interpersonal skills, building effective networks across diverse stakeholder groups/tailors

communication style to maximise impact.

5. Proven ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively as a team member.

6. Demonstrates flexibility to changing educational environments, embraces new ideas and interacts effectively with diverse

cultural backgrounds while promoting inclusive practices.

Desirable

1. Data related qualification, e.g. Batchelor in Data Science, Business Analytics, Statistics, or related field

2. Knowledge of education systems and the strategic direction and objectives of the Department of Education and Training.
