The opportunity

Our Federal Government client is seeking a talented and driven person to contribute to the implementation of development engagement in the Pacific. 

The role is expected to focus on:

  • foreign policy research and analysis;
  • program management, implementation and administration;
  • ICT database coordination, management and input functions;
  • administrative and logistical support for the work unit.

Position summary

As a Foreign Policy Officer / Analyst you will be part of a team that supports Australia's Pacific engagement.  You will engage across the Office of the Pacific and with Pacific posts to inform implementation of Australia Pacific Leaders Program. You will have a strong capacity for policy nuance.

Key duties may include:

  • undertaking foreign policy research and analysis to support Australia's Pacific engagement;
  • contributing to Australia Pacific Leaders Program's (APLP) monitoring and evaluation;
  • undertaking data analytics and briefing functions to support the APLP, including engaging with a wide variety of stakeholders;
  • supporting the administrative and logistical requirements of the work unit; and
  • promoting a positive team culture where staff work collegiately with a shared sense of purpose and build capability within the team by coaching others and providing feedback.

  • have demonstrated knowledge in an area of focus relevant to the department as outlined under 'The Opportunity' above, plus an understanding of global affairs;
  • have demonstrated ability to undertake policy research and analysis;
  • make decisions and recommendations using professional judgement and expertise in a complex environment, governed by the application of policies and best-practice principles;
  • be capable of developing and managing relationships with stakeholders to achieve work area goals;
  • have strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • be capable of prioritising and managing tasks, operating under broad direction exercising independence, and escalating issues that may have an impact on the work area;
  • demonstrate the ability to contribute positively to a workplace culture that values diversity and inclusivity; and
  • an understanding of ICT systems and administration (desired);
