Gallang Place Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation is a not-for-profit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community based organisation, providing trauma informed culturally safe healing programs with a proud and successful 30-year history.

Gallang Place is proud to be expanding our First Nations healing services into Townsville, with the opening of our new Townsville Healing Hub.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly regarded not-for-profit, community-based organisation in a position where you will have the opportunity to play an important role in the establishment and growth of the Townsville Healing Hub.

ABOUT THE POSITION

We are seeking passionate and experienced First Nations Counsellors and Facilitators who are ready to walk alongside our people on their healing journey. If you're committed to cultural safety, trauma-informed practice, and making a real difference—this is your opportunity to shape something meaningful from the ground up.

This position will be required to provide counselling and healing services face-to-face, outreach and tele-health services.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for dedicated and enthusiastic First Nations Counsellors and Facilitators committed to maintaining professional and culturally safe, trauma informed support to our First Nations clients.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Minimum of a Certificate IV or Diploma in Counselling, Youth Work, Community Service, Case Management or similar.
  • Eligible to register with ACA, PACFA or AASW and AHPRA.
  • Experience working within the Social and Emotional Wellbeing sector, providing counselling, youth support and/or case management that is: trauma-informed; cultural safe, confidential, and supports self-determination and empowerment.
  • Ability to provide a safe place for people at risk of harm and responding to traumatic or critical incidences.
  • Experience in creating respectful, meaningful, collaborative and inclusive relationships with clients.
  • Demonstrate ability to liaise effectively with suitable support services and programs relevant to client's healing journey.
  • Open to on-going professional development and training, including professional supervision.
  • Demonstrate experience to work in a team environment and follow set directions and plans to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Record and keep safe accurate confidential client records and prepare reports as required.
  • Must have a current driver's license.
  • Must have a Blue Card and willing to undergo a criminal history check.
  • Experience working within a First Nations Community-Controlled organisation or experience working within the First Nations Community is an advantage.
