Payroll Manager - Hands-On Role

Melbourne | Permanent | Competitive Salary + Work From Home Benefits

We are partnering with a well-established, privately-owned group operating across multiple industries, primarily within construction and infrastructure, to appoint an experienced Payroll Manager into a hands-on position. With a national footprint and a reputation for innovation, the business is continuing to grow and modernise its operations.

This role offers work from home flexibility 2 days per week with start and finish times flexible based on school pick-ups and drop offs.

The Role

This is a standalone opportunity for a payroll professional who enjoys taking ownership of the end-to-end function rather than managing a team. You will be the go-to specialist for payroll compliance, systems, and reporting, ensuring smooth delivery across a varied and complex workforce.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Full end-to-end processing of a multi-entity payroll (weekly, fortnightly, and monthly cycles).
  • Interpreting multiple EBAs and Awards.
  • Maintaining payroll compliance with legislation, tax, and superannuation requirements.
  • Managing system improvements and process efficiencies.
  • Preparing payroll reporting and liaising with finance and HR stakeholders.
  • Being the subject matter expert for all payroll-related queries.

About You

  • Proven experience in a payroll manager, payroll lead, or senior payroll officer role.
  • Hands-on and detail oriented - you enjoy running the process yourself.
  • Strong understanding of EBAs, Awards, PAYG, superannuation, and relevant legislation.
  • Comfortable working with payroll/HRIS systems (Chris21, ADP, or similar).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to partner with a broad stakeholder group.

Why Apply?

  • Secure role in a growing and stable organisation.
  • Autonomy and ownership of the payroll function without the pressure of managing staff.
  • Opportunity to drive improvements and make your mark.

If you are a payroll professional who thrives in an autonomous, hands-on role, we would love to hear from you. Apply today for a confidential discussion.
