Lead the delivery of Queensland's most significant public infrastructure projects.

As General Manager (Major Projects, Public Works), you will shape the strategy, governance and performance of complex, high-value capital works that deliver lasting outcomes for communities across the state. Reporting to the Deputy Director-General, you will provide strategic direction on planning, procurement and delivery, ensuring government priorities are achieved efficiently and sustainably. The Department of Housing and Public Works s responsible for delivering major public works and infrastructure that support the economic, social and environmental priorities of the Queensland Government.

The General Manager (Major Projects, Public Works) is responsible for leading the planning and delivery of complex, high-value infrastructure programs across the state. Reporting to the Deputy Director-General, Building Policy and Asset Management, the role provides strategic direction, technical oversight and assurance across a diverse program of work.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the strategic planning, delivery and performance of major public works programs
  • Oversee program governance, risk, procurement and reporting frameworks
  • Ensure effective management of cost, time, quality and safety outcomes across all projects
  • Provide expert advice on infrastructure delivery, contract management and industry engagement
  • Promote best practice in sustainability, innovation and asset management
  • Build effective partnerships with government, industry and regional stakeholders
  • Provide authoritative advice to the Deputy Director-General and Minister on infrastructure priorities and program outcomes.

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Significant experience leading large-scale public infrastructure or construction programs
  • A strong understanding of capital project governance, procurement and delivery frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex stakeholder environments
  • High-level judgement, communication and negotiation skills
  • Strategic capability to align infrastructure delivery with government objectives
  • Experience driving operational excellence and continuous improvement in program delivery.

Formal qualifications in engineering, project management, construction management or a related discipline are desirable.
