The College has an extensive offering of accredited courses with a focus on English language, foundational skills and pathways to employment, As a community organisation the College strives to assist students in realising their potential and providing pathways into employment and further education.
We are seeking a person to provide support to students in the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program at our campuses in Blacktown and Mount Druitt.
Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) is a government-funded training program. It provides eligible participants with language, literacy, numeracy, career development and digital literacy training, to help improve their skills in English needed for work or for their studies.
The SEE Program Support Officer will support students and help them successfully engage in the program by assisting them to access the support they require. They will monitor attendance and progress and liaise with students and referral bodies to maximise the student engagement and help them achieve there goals.
The role will also build and nurture relationships with stakeholders, including employment service providers and community organisations and other bodies to facilitate referrals into the program and to services that will assist our students.
The successful candidate will require:
- High level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills in a multicultural learning environment
- Ability to work collaboratively and build trust with community partners
- Understanding of and empathy toward people facing barriers to employment due to low levels of English language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills
- Good administration and time management skills
- Ability to build strong and trusting relationships with students to understand and help counter barriers to effective participation
- Ability to build links to a range of local services that students can be referred to for assistance with challenges.
The majority of our students in this program are people from non-English speaking backgrounds and those facing barriers to employment. We seek a person that has a genuine passion for assisting students on pathways to sustainable employment and the ability to be flexible to the unique needs of our students. The role may suit someone with a background in migrant or employment services. A high level of computer literacy is essential in this role. The role will work across our Blacktown and Mt Druitt campuses.
You will be responsible for:
- Providing a welcoming and supportive environment that enables our students to effective work towards goals and aspirations.
- Conducting regular support meetings with students and record these in accordance with program guidelines
- Providing students with referrals to services that may be required to assist them to overcome barriers to successful participation in and beyond the program
- Monitor and report on attendance and progress of students and liaise with referral partners as required.
- Arrange work experience placements for selected students.
- Actively engages with key stakeholders to develop and promote products and services that are student and community oriented
- Adhering to all set rules, policies, and procedures of Macquarie Community College and compliance with applicable regulatory standards and contractual requirements.
