Technical Product Manager

**What's the role?**
We are currently seeking a Technical Product Manager to join our team in a permanent position, based in our Surry Hills office.
In this role, you will be responsible for defining the technical blueprint of new features. You will work closely within our existing architecture to translate high-level product goals into detailed, engineering-ready specifications.
Your primary function is to serve as the technical source of truth. The main output of your work will be the documentation that guides the engineering team's development efforts. Success in this position is measured by the clarity and accuracy of your plans, which should enable the engineering team to execute efficiently with minimal ambiguity.
What You'll Do
Author Technical Specifications: Translate product requirements into detailed design documents. This includes creating sequence diagrams, defining API contracts (REST), specifying data schemas, and mapping event flows.
Conduct System-Level Analysis: Investigate our microservices and codebase to identify all dependencies, potential bottlenecks, and the optimal implementation path for new features.
Decompose Epics: Break down large product initiatives into well-defined, estimable engineering stories with clear, testable acceptance criteria.
Identify and Document Risks: Uncover and articulate technical risks, edge cases, failure modes, and non-functional requirements (e.g., latency, scalability, security) before development begins.
Serve as the Technical Point of Contact: Be the go-to person for engineers and product managers on the technical implementation details of their domain. You'll facilitate technical discussions and help resolve design trade-offs.
**Who are you?**
An Engineer by Trade: You likely have a background in software engineering. You've transitioned into a role focused on technical design and planning, but you remain deeply technical.
System-Oriented: You think in terms of systems, components, and interfaces. You have hands-on familiarity with microservice architectures, API design principles, and event-driven patterns.
Code Literate: You are proficient at reading code to understand system logic and implementation details, even though you will not be contributing code daily.
A Creator of Clarity: Your core strength is producing clear, concise, and unambiguous technical documentation. Engineers trust your specs because they are thorough and accurate.
A Pragmatic Collaborator: You work directly with senior engineers and architects to vet designs, discuss trade-offs, and build consensus around a technical solution. You value technical correctness and sound design.
Experienced: You have 5+ years of experience in technical roles, with at least 2 of those years in a position like Technical Product Manager, Senior Systems Analyst, or a similar function focused on technical specification.
