About the Role

This pivotal role offers the opportunity to take ownership of a large scale national fleet operation within an organisation undergoing a transformative journey. As Head of Transport, you will lead a large workforce, with reporting lines including operations, safety and compliance, fleet, admin and continuous improvement. This is a highly visible leadership position, balancing strategic oversight with operational depth.

With strong backing from a progressive Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will drive best in class performance, ensure compliance with heavy vehicle legislation, and set the safety standard across the business. This role offers significant scale and influence, both challenging and highly rewarding, providing a platform to showcase your capability with genuine opportunity to progress into broader executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead operational and cost management across the national fleet, ensuring optimal productivity, maintenance, and adherence to CPU and performance targets.
  • Oversee compliance programs (CoR, HVNL, and related frameworks), embedding a culture of safety and accountability organisation wide, across both internal teams and contracted partners.
  • Drive continuous improvement and transformation initiatives to lift efficiency, reduce cost, and improve service quality.
  • Collaborate with CI and CoE teams to plan and execute capital investments, analyse DIFOT and wider performance metrics, and identify opportunities for long term improvement.
  • Build a high performing, inclusive culture across multiple teams and locations, fostering accountability, innovation, and professional growth.
  • Develop strong relationships with executives, internal stakeholders, and key external partners to maximise operational outcomes.
  • Support and mentor senior leaders and frontline teams, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and promoting professional development.
  • Be a visible leader in driving safety, operational excellence, and compliance standards throughout the business.

About You

  • Proven expertise in large scale fleet and transport operations, with the ability to lead senior leaders and frontline teams at scale.
  • Strong commercial acumen, capable of balancing operational execution with strategic outcomes.
  • Experienced in managing complex operations across multiple locations, with a track record of delivering measurable results.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, reduce cost, and improve service quality.
  • Skilled at building inclusive, accountable, and high performing cultures, influencing at both executive and operational levels.
  • Confident, hands-on leader who is equally comfortable with strategic planning and operational involvement.
