Australian Logistics Council (ALC)
Location: Melbourne (Hybrid) | Substantial interstate travel required
About the Australian Logistics Council
The Australian Logistics Council (ALC) is the independent and trusted voice of Australia's modern supply chain. Representing leading freight and logistics companies, customers, infrastructure owners and suppliers, ALC works closely with government to advance national productivity, efficiency and sustainability across the end-to-end supply chain.
Our members operate across every mode and sector of freight logistics, including transport, warehousing, ports, retail, infrastructure and technology. Together we influence the policies and investments that underpin Australia's economic strength and competitiveness.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Head of Government and Industry Affairs is a senior leadership position responsible for coordinating ALC's national policy and advocacy agenda.
The role requires a leader who combines strong industry experience with the strategic acumen to navigate government processes and shape policy outcomes. It offers a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of industry and government on issues that define the future of freight and supply chain in Australia.
This position leads ALC's engagement with senior decision-makers across all jurisdictions, develops public policy positions on critical national priorities, and oversees key advocacy events such as the ALC + Government Dialogue, ALC Supply Chain Summit and Expert Network programs.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the development and implementation of ALC's policy, advocacy and stakeholder engagement strategies
• Coordinate and prepare high-quality policy submissions, position papers and briefings
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with Ministers, senior officials, advisers and industry leaders
• Represent ALC on government boards, advisory committees and working groups
• Oversee ALC's national engagement forums and member policy taskforces
• Contribute to the organisation's Strategic Plan, delivering measurable advocacy and membership outcomes
About You
You are a senior professional with a strong background in freight, logistics, transport or infrastructure, seeking to apply that experience in a national policy and advocacy setting. You have led complex industry, regulatory or stakeholder initiatives and can engage confidently at the highest levels of government and business.
You bring credibility, judgement and the ability to translate operational or commercial realities into effective policy solutions.
Essential Criteria
• Extensive experience within the freight, logistics, transport or infrastructure sectors
• Proven ability to develop and communicate complex public policy and advocacy strategies
• Strong record of engagement with Ministers, senior officials and industry executives
• Experience leading strategic policy forums, engagement programs or events
• Demonstrated capacity to contribute to organisational strategy and deliver outcomes
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with professionalism and integrity
Desirable Criteria
• Experience working within a member-based organisation, peak body or large industry operator
• Background in designing or managing policy events or consultation programs
• Tertiary qualifications in public policy, political science, logistics, transport, supply chain or a related field (postgraduate qualifications are highly regarded)
