Firbank Grammar is seeking an experienced and proactive Head of Careers to lead career education at our Senior School Campus in an acting role in Semester 1, 2026. This role combines teaching expertise with deep knowledge of career development, industry engagement, and student wellbeing. The Head of Careers works collaboratively with students, families, staff, and external partners to prepare our students for life beyond the Firbank gates.

We welcome applications from both teaching and non-teaching professionals; however, a strong understanding of school curriculum and a background and qualification in careers is essential for this role.

This is a part-time FTE, depending on whether a teaching load is also included), fixed-term role commencing in Term 1, 2026 and concluding at the end of the Term 2, 2026 (January 27th - June 26th). This position is available due to a staff member taking leave.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group career counselling, particularly for senior students, including subject selection, VCE, VCE VM, VET and tertiary pathways.
  • Support applications to Victorian, interstate, and international institutions, and advise on alternative pathways such as bridging programs, TAFE articulation, and portfolio-based entry.
  • Coordinate Morrisby assessments, liaise with providers, and integrate outcomes into personalised career planning.
  • Deliver career education units across Years 9–12 aligned with the Victorian Careers Curriculum Framework. Embed career learning into curriculum and wellbeing programs, ensuring differentiated experiences that reflect student diversity and aspirations.
  • Strengthen partnerships with industry leaders and tertiary institutions to provide mentoring, site visits, and career taster opportunities.
  • Monitor workforce trends and embed future-ready skills into programs.
  • Maintain strong networks across industry, tertiary institutions, and the Firbank community to ensure students access current and relevant career information.
  • Collaborate with Heads of Faculty, Year Level Wellbeing Leaders, and parents to support student pathways.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with CICA standards and school policies.

Qualifications and Experience

Both teaching and non-teaching professionals will be considered for this role; however, a strong understanding of the school curriculum and the below criteria is essential.

  • Current VIT registration or WWCC (employee) registration.
  • Graduate certificate or higher in Careers.
  • Experience in a similar role, with demonstrated experience in leading career education programs. Experience in an independent secondary school setting will be highly regarded.
  • Registration with CICA (or eligibility to register).
  • First Aid and CPR Certificates (or willingness to obtain).
  • Professional membership with CDAA and CEAAV and accreditation as a Morrisby-approved practitioner(or willingness to obtain).
  • Knowledge of Victorian, interstate, and international education systems.
  • Understanding of alternative pathways and career assessment tools.
