Hero Calling: Company Accountant (Maternity Leave Cover)

Hourly Rate: $50–$60 per hour + super

About the Opportunity Calling all Heroes (immediately available accountants), a successful and well-established gold mining business, is seeking an experienced Company Accountant to provide maternity leave coverage for a period of approximately 9–12 months starting mid-January 2025. This is an opportunity to step into a key finance position within a small, collaborative team and keep the financial operations running smoothly during a period of transition.

The Role Reporting directly to the Financial Controller (and supporting senior management), you will be responsible for maintaining day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring timely month-end reporting. This role suits a steady pair of hands who enjoys being involved across all aspects of finance in a dynamic but close-knit environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • End-to-end financial accounting, including journals, reconciliations, and month-end close
  • Preparation of management reports and variance analysis
  • BAS, payroll tax, and other statutory compliance lodgements
  • Maintenance of cashflow and general ledger integrity
  • Overseeing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and payroll processes
  • Assisting with budget preparation and audit requirements
  • Supporting the Financial Controller and wider finance team with ad hoc analysis and projects

About You

  • Qualified or near-qualified accountant (CA/CPA/CIMA) or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience in a similar Company Accountant or Senior Accountant role
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end accounting processes
  • Comfortable working in a small, hands-on finance team environment
  • Proficient in Excel and mid-tier accounting systems
  • Reliable, organised, and self-motivated with strong attention to detail
