What's the role?
An exciting opportunity is available for a Senior Architect to join the Chief Transformation Office. Solution Architects at Westpac play a pivotal role in bringing technology strategies to life, delivering scalable solutions that drive significant value across the organisation. Operating as leaders across all layers of technology—strategy, architecture, engineering, and operations—they are instrumental in aligning technical solutions with business objectives.

At the senior level, Solution Architects demonstrate a high level of curiosity and expertise, consistently balancing economic considerations with technical requirements to design and implement solutions that optimise outcomes for the bank.

This role involves developing and promoting reference architectures for distributed applications optimised for Westpac's mesh environment. Operating as an individual contributor within cross-functional teams, the architect acts as a trusted advisor to business leaders while representing technology teams. A key focus is guiding the refactoring of existing applications into cost-efficient, value-generating assets for the organisation.

What do I need?

• Hands-on experience solving business and technology problems, including system integration, product launches, incident management, and using data analytics and machine learning in operations.
• Strong systems design background with exposure to various architecture methods and structured problem-solving techniques.
• Experience with large-scale migration projects, especially involving customer and account data.
• Knowledge of banking architecture, particularly in customer and account origination and servicing.
• Committed to continuous learning and using technology to create business value across planning, design, and operations.
• Able to weigh trade-offs between adopting new technologies and maintaining proven, valuable systems.
• Understands the importance of scalability, high availability, and performance.
• Familiar with distributed platforms and cloud technologies (preferred).
• Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and mentoring skills.
• Works well with cross-functional teams to turn business needs into scalable architecture.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, adaptable to different audiences.
• Strong analytical, technical, planning, and organisational abilities.
