Our Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP) ensures clients have the tools and support needed to achieve social and economic well-being in their new communities.

The Role

We are looking for a caring, organised, and community-focused Connection Support Worker to join our team. In this role, you will be providing direct support and assistance to newcomers within the settlement program. You will work closely with Connection Coordinators within a place-based settlement team to support individuals and families to help them navigate the challenges of settling into a new community, build social networks, and access essential services and attend community activities.

This is a maximum term role until 30th November 2026, role based in Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan and surrounds, ideal for someone passionate about supporting people from diverse backgrounds.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Provide culturally competent, trauma-informed support to clients from refugee and humanitarian backgrounds.
  • Assist new clients to attend monthly program information and orientation sessions.
  • Share a monthly calendar of activities and support client participation.
  • Implement Case Management Plans under the direction of the Connection Coordinator.
  • Offer emotional support to clients and escalate wellbeing concerns when needed.
  • Participate in the place-based intake roster.
  • Respond promptly to crises or incidents and escalate appropriately.
  • Support clients to build meaningful social and cultural connections.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to deliver group life-skills activities and programs.
  • Maintain accurate and timely client records, data entry, and claims in CSNet and relevant systems.
  • Attend team meetings, case conferences, community events, and other activities as directed.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the Team Leader or Connection Coordinator.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  1. Possession of qualifications in Diploma or Certificate of the field of Social and Community Services;
  2. Possession of Diploma or Certificate of the field of Social and Community Services. Other relevant qualifications (including overseas qualifications) or experience may be recognised;
  3. Valid Queensland Driver's Licence;
  4. Possession of, or willingness and eligibility to obtain a Blue Card Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 and the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Regulation 2020, and
  5. Queensland National Police Check.

Additional Desirable Skills:

  • Previous work in community services, social work, settlement services, case management, or similar fields.
  • Experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, including refugees or migrants.
  • The ability to work in high-pressure or emotionally demanding environments while maintaining professionalism and care.
