The Company

This role can be located in any major city across Australia, though HO is at Barangaroo in Sydney and some interstate travel will be required.

Robert Half Executive Search has been exclusively retained by The Australian Computer Society (ACS), the professional Association for Australia's technology sector, to identify an accomplished senior leader to join the organisation as its Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

With a presence in every state in Australia, this organisation plays a vital role in the country's ICT industry, supporting and inspiring thousands of IT professionals in their careers each year.

Through its rich ecosystem and partnerships with both commerce and government, the organisation offers a variety of programmes and online resources, including skills assessments, training courses, market-leading events, and pioneering thought leadership materials.

The Role

Reporting to the CEO, the CTO will be responsible for driving the organisation's technology strategy and transformation with a focus on innovation and delivery.

The CTO will partner closely with the CEO and the Management Committee, a team of well-networked and passionate ICT professionals, as this organisation executes the next phase of its digitally led growth agenda.

The success of the CTO will depend on their ability to develop strong relationships, both externally with vendors, industry and government advisors and internally with high-performing senior stakeholders. The successful individual will lead and develop an Information Technology team of leaders and staff totaling ~ 20 to execute new and innovative ways to use technology to protect and enhance operations.

This role is pivotal in planning, implementing, and managing technology systems and infrastructure. It also plays a critical role in cybersecurity leadership, building internal IT capability, and engaging strategically with key stakeholders.

Overarchingly, this will involve the following:

• Leadership of a significant digital technology transformation.
• Implementation of industry-leading technology strategy, including systems, infrastructure and cybersecurity, that enable efficient operations, innovation, and business growth.
• Championing new technology innovations to improve services and maintain a competitive edge.
• Working closely with key existing and new partners, including corporate and government bodies, and innovative industry leaders from AI to Tech Policy Design Institute.

Your Profile

Currently in a senior leadership position, the successful candidate will bring a proven record in technology transformation, deep hands-on technical expertise, and ideally experience across commercial industries, SMEs, and/or agile start-up or scale-up environments.

The new CTO should be able to leverage their innovative technology career to demonstrate leadership success in:

• Development of comprehensive technology strategies and roadmaps.
• Digital transformation on a large scale.
• Anticipating emerging trends and business needs, driving advancements across architecture, digital platforms, automation, AI, cloud solutions, and cybersecurity.
• Translating strategy into measurable outcomes while managing budgets and teams efficiently.
• Experience with cross-functional teams with solid expertise across IT operations, cloud engineering, development, testing, and third-party vendors.
• Engaging effectively with senior internal and external stakeholders at the highest levels across public, private and commercial organisations.
• Confidently representing the organisation as its technology spokesperson, positioning it as a leader in technological innovation and thought leadership.
