About us
Legal Aid NSW helps people with their legal problems. We can help people with most areas criminal law, family law and every day civil law legal issues. We give legal advice, help at court and do family dispute resolution. We can do this over the telephone or at one of our 28 offices.
About the role
The position is responsible for providing high quality, trauma informed advice, minor assistance, duty and casework service to socially and economically disadvantaged clients who have experienced family and domestic violence. This role conducts an effective legal practice, working within an interdisciplinary team to meet the legal and non-legal needs of clients who have experienced family and domestic violence. This role is required to comply with the Legal Aid Commission Act, policies and practice management standards and undertake all related administrative and case management activities.
This role is based in Sydney; however, we are open to the successful candidate to work in other Legal Aid NSW offices across the state. Subject to operational requirements, the successful candidate may work in a hybrid arrangement, with a mix of office and work-from-home days. A minimum of three days per week in the office is expected, depending on business needs.

The essential requirements for this role
You must:
- identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- have legal qualifications
- be able to provide a a valid NSW Practicing Certificate before starting work with us
- have ability to travel regularly, and to regional and remote areas
- be willing to do a Criminal Record Check and Working with Children Check
The Family Law Division have several roles where it is a statutory obligation for staff to hold a valid Working with Children Check. You will be required to provide your Working with Children Check details prior to commencement in any role requiring the check.
