Firstly, as this is an Aboriginal identified position, applicants must be a person of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW. Applicants must have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and have established links with their local Aboriginal community. We are also looking for applicants that hold a Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Practice) and hold AHPRA registration as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner, or willingness to obtain AHPRA Registration as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner in a timeframe determined by the manager.

Here at Justice Health NSW, the Aboriginal Health Practitioner is responsible to provide cultural support, education and care navigation for Aboriginal patients with drug and alcohol concerns and act as a liaison between Justice Health NSW D&A Services and external health services. The role and responsibilities are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with Network delegations, policies, procedures and operations systems, and in line with both the NSW Health and Network Codes of Conduct.

- Demonstrated understanding of drug and alcohol issues impacting on Aboriginal patients and their families and evidence based drug and alcohol treatment approaches.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and to liaise/negotiate with other health professionals to plan, develop and deliver culturally sensitive health care education.
- Ability to work autonomously in facilitating a range of clinical assessments and case management processes within the scope of practice and plan and prioritise workload effectively and efficiently.
- Demonstrated effective written & verbal communication skills and basic computer skills.
- Current NSW State driver's licence.
