Legal Aid NSW helps people with their legal problems. We can help people with most areas criminal law, family law and every day civil law legal issues. We give legal advice, help at court and do family dispute resolution. We can do this over the telephone or at one of our 28 offices.

About CLSAC

The Civil Law Service for Aboriginal Communities (CLSAC) is a statewide team within the Civil Law Division that delivers legal services by phone and in-person on outreach, to remote and regionally located Aboriginal clients and communities. CLSAC also provides civil law services to Aboriginal women in custody within NSW. CLSAC is an interdisciplinary team that provides legal assistance, caseworker support, financial counselling and community legal education services to Aboriginal people. CLSAC partners with Aboriginal communities and organisations, to provide holistic services that support the needs of the communities we work with.

About the role

This is a unique opportunity to oversee, expand and strengthen engagement with Aboriginal Communities across NSW. You will focus on deepening connections with community, increasing participation in outreach programs, as well as the Aboriginal Women Leading Custody (AWLC) program. You will partner with local stakeholders to identify opportunities for collaboration and deliver meaningful outcomes for clients.

Based in Sydney (Haymarket), the role offers the opportunity to work closely with Aboriginal communities, with regular travel (approximately once every four (4) weeks), to regional and remote areas, including the Far South Coast, Far West, and Northern Rivers of NSW.

About you

We are seeking a passionate and experienced individual committed to empowering Aboriginal communities and driving culturally safe engagement.

In this role, your leadership will be key to fostering trust, increasing participation in outreach and AWLC programs, and delivering meaningful outcomes for community.

You will have a strong track record of working closely with Aboriginal communities, building respectful relationships, and promoting access to vital services.

You will join a team that values connection, respect, and community-led approaches, that keep community at the centre of everything we do.

The essential requirements for this role

You must:

  • be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander

  • be willing to do a Criminal Record Check and Working with Children Check

  • hold a current and valid NSW Driver's Licence

  • be willing and able to travel to remote and rural areas by plane and car.
