Contract: 6–12 months (fixed term)

About the Role

Chess Engineering is seeking a skilled Project Manager to deliver tank fabrication and OEM heavy-fabrication projects. You'll be responsible for managing scope, schedule, cost, QA/MDR requirements, and client communication in a fast-paced workshop environment.

You must have strong experience in API650/API653 tanks, OEM components, and the type of fabrication projects delivered at Chess.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery

  • Manage end-to-end delivery of tank and OEM fabrication scopes
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, ITPs, API/AS/ASME standards
  • Coordinate sequencing with supervisors and planning
  • Control scope changes, variations and deliverables

Schedule & Cost

  • Build and track project schedules and milestones
  • Manage hours, materials, subcontractors and budgets
  • Provide weekly progress updates and resolve issues early

Quality, MDR & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with API650/API653, AS1554, ASME IX, CC3 (where applicable)
  • Oversee ITPs, weld maps, NDT, coatings, and traceability
  • Lead MDR completion and final documentation packages

HSE & Site Requirements

  • Support SWMS, lift plans and mobilisation requirements
  • Ensure fabrication and site works meet Chess safety standards

Communication & Commercial

  • Manage client communication and technical queries
  • Work closely with estimating, planning, workshop, QA and procurement
  • Administer variations, EOTs, and contractual correspondence

What You Bring

Mandatory

  • Experience delivering API650/API653 tank projects
  • Strong OEM project background (wear parts, heavy plate, proprietary items)
  • Solid understanding of welding, NDT, coatings and QA documentation
  • Experience compiling MDRs
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a workshop environment
  • Strong communication and stakeholder skills

Desirable

  • Mechanical trade or engineering qualification
  • Experience supporting installation phases
  • Knowledge of CC3 fabrication or pressure parts
  • Familiarity with scheduling or ERP/job costing systems
