About Northern Health:
As an organisation we have a clear focus on how we service and partner with our community, including our strategy of helping the community stay well when at home. Our reputation of community minded, inclusive and progressive is matched to none.

Northern Health is located in the rapidly growing northern suburbs with projected growth the biggest in the state. With a booming, culturally rich and diverse community, and less than an hour's drive from the CBD (still within the bounds of Myki and ride-sharing), Melbourne's North is fast becoming the place to be.

An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic Consumer Peer Support Worker to join the team at Northern Health.
We have a position currently available at our Ward 7 (Women's Ward) and we would love to have you join us as we strive to improve the support we provide to our consumers and expand our lived experience workforce.

About Northern Health:
Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne's rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our five main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg.

About the Role:
The Family/Carer Peer Support Worker is a carer focused role in a mental health setting offering various modes of support to families, carers and supporters of consumers.

The role is largely informed by the worker's own lived experience of caring and supporting someone with mental ill-health and their involvement with mental health services.

The Family/Carer Peer Support Worker will work in collaboration with other family/carer workers, consumer lived experience workers and clinical staff in a holistic multidisciplinary team.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A personal lived experience of mental health challenges and accessing mental health services (ideally within public mental health services)
  • A relevant understanding of public mental health services and the mental health system
  • Be willing and able to mutually support consumers in their own recovery, empowering them to take positive steps towards their own wellbeing by sharing your lived experience
  • Be a team player who is collaborative and motivated to work within a holistic multidisciplinary team
  • Well-developed communication, organisation, time management and computer skills
