Primary Purpose
The primary purpose of the Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Diesel Mechanic is to train on, assist with, and carry out breakdown maintenance and preventative maintenance in order to keep a fleet of road trucks and Trailing equipment operation.
Specific Responsibilities
- Train on, assist with, and carry out equipment and earthmoving plant diagnosis
- Train on, assist with, and carry out breakdown maintenance repairs
- Train on, assist with, and carry out preventative maintenance duties
- Adhere to safety systems as per OEM specifications
- Maintain mechanical inventory stocktake as required
- Maintain housekeeping to a high standard
- Completion of vehicle and equipment defect reports
- Completion of work orders and service sheets
- Completion of workshop safety based paperwork
Qualifications and Experience
- Basic knowledge and understanding of road trucks
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with a variety of people
- Ability to work autonomously using proactive approach to task resolution
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable to work in a demanding environment
- Ability to work well within a small workshop team environment
- Integrity
- Strong Communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Planning, negotiation and problem solving skills
- Conscious about workplace safety
