About The Team
We have an exciting opportunity for a talented policy, governance or legal professional to lead the Secretariat of the Cash Equities Clearing and Settlement Advisory Group, which has been tasked with providing input from industry into the ASX Clear and ASX Settlement boards on strategic clearing and settlement matters. This role will support the Independent Chair and the Advisory Group, providing a unique opportunity to play a part in the future evolution of Australia's financial market infrastructure.

What You Will Be Doing
Your role will primarily involve providing comprehensive support to ensure the effective functioning of the Advisory Group as it considers key strategic matters related to cash equities clearing and settlement. The position is a unique opportunity to be involved in the work of the Advisory Group, which will be considering issues relating to the CHESS project.

As a member of the broader Office of the General Counsel, opportunities will exist for you to leverage your regulatory policy, legal or governance expertise to a range of other matters when time permits.

Key duties will include

  • Working closely with the Independent Chair to ensure success of the Advisory Group, including:

  • Attending meetings of the Advisory Group and taking meeting minutes.

  • Provide, or assist in obtaining, expert advice and information to the Independent Chair on issues to support Advisory Group functions. This will involve being informed about relevant policies, regulations, stakeholder interests, the clearing and settlement services and governance frameworks that affect the Advisory Group's work.
  • Ensuring appropriate governance arrangements for the Advisory Group are in place and observed, and provide advice to the Independent Chair on governance arrangements.
  • Liaising with the Independent Chair in relation to setting meeting agendas and preparing meeting materials.
  • Assisting the Internal Chair to manage external communications on behalf of the Advisory Group.

  • Responsibility for the preparation of materials relating to the work of the Advisory Group, including:

  • Preparation of key documents to support the Advisory Group, including meeting agendas and papers. This will include coordinating input from internal and external stakeholders, as necessary.

  • Undertaking or obtaining research for the Advisory Group, as necessary.

  • Ensuring seamless execution of Advisory Group meetings, by:

  • Providing oversight of the planning, coordinating and managing all aspects of Advisory Group meetings, including scheduling, logistics and meeting preparation.

  • Distribution of meeting papers, meeting outcomes and following-up on agreed action items.
  • Liaising with Advisory Group members, ASX business units and other ASX governance bodies.

  • Where capacity permits, lead or contribute to ASX projects from a legal, policy or governance

What You Will Bring
Must have

  • Substantial experience in a policy, legal or governance role.
  • Tertiary education in legal, policy or governance discipline
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with senior executives from ASX and senior industry stakeholders
  • Highly developed organisational and coordination skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management
  • Professionalism, discretion, and initiative

Nice To Have

  • Experience in providing secretariat functions in a complex environment (corporate or public sector) i.e. supporting boards, committees and/or sub-committees.
  • Experience in regulatory and policy development (either from a regulator / public service or highly regulated entity); stakeholder engagement; and background in the financial services sectors
  • Familiar with knowledge management process & practices, including Diligent Board Paper application
  • Dealing with regulators in Australia or overseas
