**Senior Aboriginal Engagement and Cultural Advisor (Identified Role) – Federal Government

We're looking for a culturally grounded and experienced communicator to join the Federal Government'sWater Group as a Senior Aboriginal Engagement and Cultural Advisor.
This is an Aboriginal-identified position, designed to foster inclusive, community-driven outcomes and support collaboration between government and Aboriginal communities across NSW.
Location:Deniliquin-based (Flexible Regional NSW – Moama/Echuca, Hay, Balranald, Jerilderie, etc.)
Classification: Clerk Grade 7/8 or Clerk Grade 9/10 (depending on experience)
Employment Type: Full-Time | Ongoing or Contract
Salary: Competitive NSW Government Package + Travel Support
Department: Federal Government – Climate, Water & Environment Portfolio
Where You'll Be Based The role will be based at our Deniliquin office, with a hybrid working model that includes:
- Onsite work at construction and monitoring locations
- In-office collaboration at Deniliquin
- Remote (work-from-home) flexibility where appropriate
Due to the broad reach of the water projects, this role is ideal for someone living in or near:
- Moama / Echuca
- Hay
- Deniliquin
- Balranald
- Jerilderie
Candidates based outside of these regions will need to be prepared to travel and stay overnight for several nights each week to attend regional worksites and community engagement events.
Your Impact As a Senior Aboriginal Engagement and Cultural Advisor, you will:
- Facilitate cultural input and Traditional Owner involvement in water infrastructure and planning
- Lead and support community consultation and cultural heritage site monitoring
- Strengthen partnerships between government and Aboriginal communities
- Provide cultural advice and insights to project teams and leadership
- Support the integration of Aboriginal values, priorities and heritage in water reform and policy
What You'll Bring
- Strong cultural knowledge and trusted community connections
- Experience with Aboriginal engagement, stakeholder relations, or project support
- Familiarity with water policy, environmental projects, or planning
- Confidence working on Country and engaging in site-based work
- A current NSW Driver's Licence and the flexibility to travel regularly
Essential Requirements This is an Aboriginal-identified role, open only to applicants who:
- Are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
- Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
- Are accepted as such by their community
