Full Time Cultural Support Officer
The Cultural Support Officer is a part of the Holistic Healing Team. The primary focus of the Cultural Support Officer is to build resilience and reduce Social Emotional and wellbeing barriers within the Aboriginal community through the provision of counselling, mentoring, referral and advocacy, community engagement and capacity building activities. This will include strategies to increase help seeking behaviours, build resilience, empowerment and overall increase the wellbeing of the Aboriginal community, including supporting the development of healthy-concepts of Aboriginality. Provide support to OAMS clients and their families in navigating the social, emotional and physical impacts that effect their health & wellbeing.
The Cultural Support Officer will work within the clinic guiding registrars, medical students staff to feel safe, comfortable and confident in the way hey work and interact with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities. Ensure community feel empowered to connect to culture.
The overarching function of the Cultural Support Officer is to ensure that support is planned and coordinated to enable effective access for Aboriginal community to appropriate services both internal and external to OAMS, along with the development of specific male-lead targeted community development and capacity building programs and activities, in partnership with other stakeholders such as Elder's groups and Aboriginal Men's groups and OAMS other partners.
- To be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Descent (pursuant to Section 14 (d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act)
- Agreement of and ability to complete Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Healthcare
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed care
- Sound communication skills both verbal and written
- Demonstrated experience working unsupervised and as part of a team
- Ability to navigate social service supports for individuals and families

Remuneration: $37.00 per hour + superannuation
