What's the role?
As an Automation Designer, you will focus on the technical implementation of broadcast graphics, designing and developing solutions that integrate seamlessly with our newsroom systems. Rather than a purely creative role, this position emphasises building graphics templates, automating workflows, and ensuring smooth integration with our on-air platforms.
You will collaborate closely with Editorial, Creative, Operations, and Engineering teams to ensure graphics are properly integrated with our broadcast systems. Additionally, you will troubleshoot technical issues, refine automation processes, provide training, and maintain documentation to ensure efficiency and consistency across all platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop broadcast graphics templates for video wall, full frame, lower third, tickers, and touchscreen graphics, and managing their integration with broadcast automation systems.
- Support the creation of newsroom rundowns, working with our Editorial and Operational teams to ensure their requirements are met.
- Reviewing and responding to automation help desk tickets and troubleshooting technical issues.
- Maintaining backups of broadcast graphics databases and regularly purging outdated database items.
- Support the training of staff on automation and newsroom graphics systems and providing troubleshooting advice.
Who are you?
- Experience with any motion graphic software, this can include self-taught experience. Specific experience with Vizrt is preferrable but not required.
- A sound understanding of 2D graphic animation and what is suitable for live TV news.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and will leverage all the latest tools and repositories of information to get the job done.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced live news environment and adapt to changing production requirements.
- The ability to communicate and collaborate with your colleagues.
