Project Development Lead

CS Energy is seeking a Project Development Lead, a technically adept and commercially astute professional who can bring clarity, structure, and insight to the early stages of capital project development.

About the Role

As Project Development Lead, you'll coordinate cross-functional subject matter experts to develop high-quality investment papers that inform sound, evidence-based decisions.

You'll lead the preparation of concept studies, business cases, and feasibility reports, ensuring that technical, commercial, operational, and risk inputs align to create clear, compelling, and investment-ready documentation.

Reporting to the Project Delivery Manager, you'll facilitate project development through key stage gates, ensuring compliance with capital governance frameworks and contributing to the success of CS Energy's long-term asset strategy.

You'll be responsible for:

• Early-phase project development by clearly defining problem statements, assessing strategic drivers, and leading pre-feasibility and structured options assessments.
• Leading the preparation of investment documentation to support project development gates.
• Coordinating input from engineering, operations, commercial, finance, and risk teams.
• Facilitating workshops on scope definition, risk management, cost, and schedule validation.
• Ensuring alignment with governance standards, approval requirements, and decision timelines.
• Managing the integration, quality, and completeness of project study deliverables.
• Providing clear, evidence-based recommendations to inform investment decisions.
• Embedding continuous improvement and consistency across project development methodologies.

This is a Brisbane-based position which will require regular engagement and travel to our sites in QLD (Callide Power Station and Kogan Creek Power Station).

About You

You're a strategic and detail-oriented project professional with a strong understanding of how great projects begin.

You excel at bringing together technical, commercial, and operational insights to develop investment cases that are robust, credible, and compelling.

You'll bring:

• Around 8–10 years' experience in project development or study management within asset-intensive industries.
• Demonstrated success leading early-phase studies, from concept through to feasibility, in complex operational environments.
• Familiarity with stage-gate capital governance frameworks and risk-based decision-making.
• A background in engineering, project management, or a related discipline.
• Strong analytical and commercial/financial acumen, with the ability to integrate multidisciplinary inputs.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of business cases and presentations to senior stakeholders.
• Demonstrated experience developing pre-feasibility studies, evaluating options, and delivering strategies that optimise outcomes for the business.
• Able to think commercially and challenge assumptions, ensuring investment decisions are driven by value, not just technical feasibility.
