Unity Developer

Role Overview
The
Unity
Developer
role is responsible for developing and maintaining interactive 3D environments that support advanced design visualisation, simulation, and automation capabilities. Reporting to the Lead Software Architect, this role will focus on automating the design of civil and structural engineering models within Unity 3D, ensuring accurate simulation, visualisation, and interaction with design data.
The successful candidate will bridge the gap between engineering design and immersive digital experiences, applying their knowledge of structural design principles and Unity development best practices. Strong collaboration, creative problem-solving, and technical precision are essential. Training and onboarding specific to Raddlabs' development environment will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
Unity 3D Development
– Design, develop, and maintain 3D visualisations and interactive tools within the Unity engine. Implement C# scripts to manage scene behaviour, object interactions, and data integration.
Unity UI Development
- Design, develop and maintain complex 2D user interfaces for parametric engineering applications within the Unity Editor interface.
Structural and Civil Modelling
– Translate engineering and construction design tools into optimised Unity environments. Ensure accurate structural representation, physics-based simulations, and alignment with engineering standards and calculations.
Integration and Automation
– Collaborate with software engineers to integrate automation workflows, data import/export pipelines, and real-time engineering calculations using APIs.
Visualisation and Rendering
– Develop photorealistic materials, lighting, and environments for structural models. Ensure high performance and visual fidelity across devices.
Collaboration and Agile Development
– Work closely with other developers, engineers, and designers to deliver project milestones. Participate in Agile workflows using JIRA and Confluence to document progress, manage sprints, and maintain development transparency.
Communication Skills
- Produce clearly-documented Jira tickets and deliver PRs to specified project standards with strong documentation as standard.
Testing and Optimisation
– Test and debug Unity builds; optimise assets and scripts for performance and scalability.
Documentation
– Maintain clear technical documentation for Unity components, scene architecture, and data flows. Create internal reference guides for engineers and designers using Raddlabs tools.
Remote Collaboration
– Attend regular meetings, provide progress updates, and maintain effective communication across distributed teams using Zoom.
Unit Testing and TDD
- Proficient with unit and E2E testing in a TDD environment powered by sophisticated CI/CD systems
Qualifications
- Minimum
3 years of professional experience
in Unity 3D development. - Bachelor's degree in
Computer Science, Software Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field
, or equivalent real-world experience. - Strong proficiency in
C# programming
within Unity. - Experience with
3D modelling and importing workflows
(FBX, OBJ, GLTF, etc.) from engineering software such as Revit, AutoCAD, or Civil 3D. - Understanding of
structural design principles
and familiarity with civil or construction engineering concepts. - Experience with
physics simulation
,
procedural generation
, or
BIM integration
will be highly regarded. - Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git, GitHub).

- High level of attention to detail and spatial accuracy.

- Strong communication and teamwork in remote environments.
- Ability to work efficiently in a flexible, Agile team environment.
- Demonstrable proficiency with TDD and unit testing in a Unity environment.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
