ABOUT UNIONS TASMANIA

Unions Tasmania is the peak body for trade unions in Tasmania. For over 140 years, we have been giving a voice to working Tasmanians and their families. Our offices are based in the Hobart CBD, but we work statewide.

We represent approximately 50,000 union members, across the private and public sector, in workplaces big and small.

We strongly encourage applications from First Nations people, people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, LGBTIQ+ people, people with disability, and women. We also encourage you to apply for this job if you are deeply passionate about the union movement but don't meet every selection criterion.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled organiser (or aspiring organiser) to join our small team on a fixed term basis (to cover staff movement within the organisation).

This is a critical role for Unions Tasmania where you will work with union leaders, staff, delegates, HSRs, and members to plan, organise, and implement agreed campaigns and key union activities for the peak body.

You will need an understanding of the key issues facing workers across Tasmania and the industrial and political landscape that we work within.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • A commitment to union values and a passion for worker's rights.
  • Experience in working for a union or other campaigning organisation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Effective planning and organisational skills, balancing competing demands, while coordinating logistics and engagement of members for actions or events.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships across the union movement.
  • Readiness to participate in the union movement's political and social justice agenda.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
  • Capacity to exercise judgment and discretion within a politically sensitive environment.
  • Respect for cultural and social diversity within the workforce and the community.
  • Experience using social media and other digital communication platforms or any design experience will be looked upon very favourably.

YOUR WORKING CONDITIONS

An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful applicant, which will include:

  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Uncapped personal leave.
  • 17% employer superannuation contributions.

In applying for the position, applicants should provide their resume and a cover letter of no more than two pages to the Secretary, Jessica Munday, at using the subject line: Campaigns Organiser.

Applications close Tuesday 16th of September 2025.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • The position will require duties performed outside of office hours, especially around key campaign moments.
  • Unrestricted driver licence.
