Cairns, Queensland, Australia Deadly Inspiring Youth Doing Good Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Corporation Full time $104,000 - $130,878 per year

About the Role

Are you a young person passionate about making a difference in your community? Join Deadly Inspiring Youth Doing Good Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation (DIYDG) in Cairns as a Peer Mentor.

As a Peer Mentor, you'll use your lived experience and cultural knowledge to walk alongside other young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, supporting them through challenges and celebrating their strengths. This role is all about being relatable, sharing story, and leading by example—showing what's possible when we support each other to grow.

This is a full-time role that offers the opportunity to strengthen culture, connection, and belonging while helping shape the next generation of leaders.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Providing one-on-one mentoring and support to young people, helping them set goals and develop life skills.
  • Facilitating group workshops and activities that focus on culture, belonging, and personal growth.
  • Sharing your own journey and experiences in ways that inspire others.
  • Connecting young people with cultural activities, community events, and supportive services.
  • Working with staff, Elders, and partners to deliver youth-focused programs.
  • Advocating for the wellbeing and rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who can relate to the journey of young people because you've walked a similar path yourself.

  • Lived experience as a young Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person navigating challenges such as identity, education, or community connection.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport.
  • A commitment to empowering young people and promoting culture and belonging.
  • Ability to stay calm and supportive in challenging situations.
  • Willingness to learn, grow, and take part in training.
  • Qualifications in youth work, community development, or related fields are great, but not essential—your experience and story matter most.

What We Offer

At DIYDG, we create a workplace that values the voices and leadership of young people. You'll be supported by a team who believes in youth-led solutions and who are committed to your professional development and wellbeing.

  • Competitive remuneration.
  • Opportunities to grow your skills and training.
  • A supportive, culturally safe environment.
  • A chance to be part of a movement creating positive change.
