  • Full time, ongoing role based in Hobart or Launceston

About the opportunity

The Team Leader, Accommodation Operations is a key leadership role within the University of Tasmania's Campus Accommodation team, which manages over 2,500 student beds across multiple sites. This position ensures the delivery of a safe, vibrant, and student-focused residential experience by overseeing day-to-day operations and leading a high-performing customer service and administrative team. The role is central to implementing strategic initiatives, managing the full accommodation lifecycle—from applications and offers to arrivals, departures, and maintenance coordination—and driving continuous improvement in systems, policies, and processes to enhance operational efficiency and student satisfaction.

Beyond operational oversight, the Team Leader plays an important role in data and systems analysis to inform decision-making and improve performance. The position also manages administrative and operational aspects of the University's Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) arrangement and collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with the University's strategic mission. Guided by the Residential Communities Strategy 2025–2030, this role contributes to creating safe, vibrant, and uniquely Tasmanian residential communities where students can thrive, underpinned by principles of being resident-focused, collaborative, innovative, and sustainable.

What you'll do:

  • Manage strategic operations across multiple accommodation sites, including implementing initiatives that impact service delivery and resident experience.
  • Lead the Accommodation Operations team, fostering a culture of service excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee accommodation services, including student applications, industry and conference bookings, catering requests, and room inspections, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Manage communication and stakeholder engagement, acting as an escalation point and ensuring timely, professional responses to internal and external enquiries.

What we're looking for:

  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a diverse team across multiple sites to achieve shared goals, with a focus on setting clear expectations, providing feedback, and fostering a culture of accountability and improvement.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and manage competing demands. Demonstrated experience in understanding operational budgets, contracts, developing policy and partnerships to support strategic and operational outcomes
  • Ability to work independently within established guidelines, exercising discretion, impartiality, and sound decision-making in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated commitment to high-quality customer service in a student-focused or client-oriented setting.

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 7 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $130,943 comprising base salary within the range of $101,821 to $111,917 plus 17% superannuation.
