The Opportunity

Based in North Melbourne, this Project Administrator – Continuous Improvement, 18-month fixed-term contract role will lead continuous improvement and sustainability projects to deliver compliant, innovative, and effective waste management solutions for the City of Melbourne. The role will be embedded within the operational team, working closely with Council, contractors, and internal crews to manage and improve performance in sustainability, operational effectiveness, and the adoption of new technologies.

  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety obligations, meeting contract requirements and agreed outcomes.
  • Develop, execute and review project plans, including scope, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation, for waste management initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the City of Melbourne and internal teams to align projects with stakeholder goals and organizational priorities.
  • Research and recommend innovative technologies to improve operational outcomes and waste management practices.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations, delivering actionable insights and progress updates to stakeholders.
  • Create and implement tools, resources, and change programs to support contract objectives, documenting and communicating results for continuous improvement.
  • Assist with reporting activities, including data analysis and data collection, where required.
  • Identify and implement operational improvements to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of waste services.
  • Champion the use of digital tools and systems, promoting efficiency, accountability, and service confirmation.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have a tertiary qualification in project management, environmental science, sustainability, business or continuous improvement, with a strong understanding of, and demonstrable experience in, proactively leading a positive work culture.

  • Proven ability to build relationships with customers and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to work independently, create new and innovative ideas to improve operational, sustainability or cultural outcomes.
  • Strong time management & works in a structured manner.
  • Intermediate level of knowledge of MS Office packages and computer literacy.
