Salute For Service is an Australian not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting current and ex-serving Australian Defence Force (ADF) members. We provide a holistic approach to transitioning to civilian life, focusing on employment, education, training, and pathways into mental, physical, and psychosocial health.
Position Overview
Salute For Service is seeking a dedicated and experienced Social Worker to support veterans in their transition to civilian life. This role is well-suited for a professional with a background in case management, rehabilitation, career development, and advocacy. You will work closely with veterans to identify their needs, provide guidance, and connect them with appropriate services, ensuring a smooth and supported transition.
Key Responsibilities
Client-Centred Support

Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify veterans' needs, strengths, and goals.

Develop and implement tailored care plans in collaboration with clients and other service providers.

Provide counselling and support for mental, physical, and psychosocial health challenges.
Return-to-Work and Rehabilitation Programs
-
Support veterans in engaging with return-to-work and rehabilitation programs.

Collaborate with employers, healthcare providers, and educational institutions to facilitate vocational and workplace reintegration.

Assist in creating strategies for workplace accommodations and vocational rehabilitation.
Health and Wellbeing
-
Support access to mental health, physical health, and social support services.

Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure integrated care.
Career Planning and Recruitment Support

Guide veterans in identifying career opportunities and developing actionable career plans.

Provide support for job applications, resume building, and interview preparation.

Work with recruitment partners to connect veterans with suitable employment opportunities.
Team Collaboration and Mentorship

Collaborate closely with senior and junior team members to deliver cohesive services.

Provide informal guidance and share best practices with junior social workers to enhance overall team effectiveness.

Participate in team meetings and contribute to program development.
Advocacy and Networking

Advocate for veterans' access to essential services, rights, and resources.

Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, non-profits, and community organisations.

Participate in community outreach to promote Salute For Service's mission.
Compliance and Reporting

Ensure all services comply with Australian social work standards and Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) regulations.

Maintain accurate and confidential client records.

Prepare reports for program evaluation and compliance.
Qualifications and Experience
Required:
-
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
-
Current registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
-
Minimum 5 years of experience in social work, case management, or rehabilitation services.

Strong knowledge of DVA & Coordinated Veterans' Care (CVC) program regulations.
-
Proven experience in employment services, return-to-work programs, and career coaching.

Strong advocacy, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

Experience working with ADF personnel, veterans, or their families.
Highly Desirable:

Minimum 3-5 years' experience in social work, preferably in veteran services or related fields.

Strong understanding of return-to-work programs, rehabilitation, career planning, and recruitment.

Knowledge of DVA regulations, funding programs, and CVC program requirements.

Experience in program development and policy advisory roles.
-
Background in mental health services, rehabilitation, or trauma-informed care.

Knowledge of veteran-specific funding programs and entitlements.

Strong understanding of community resources and services supporting veterans.
