The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Project Officer to provide a critical role within System Performance Branch.
About the Business Unit
Corrections Victoria is part of the Corrections and Justice Services group in the Department of Justice and Community Safety (department). Corrections Victoria operates Victoria's adult custodial corrections system. Its vision is for Safer Prisons, Safer People, Safer Communities. The System Performance Branch in Custodial Operations comprises three teams, which are: Operational Assurance, Compliance and Reviews; Continuous Improvement; and Statewide Operational Support. The branch provides authoritative, strategic, operational and policy advice, and briefing papers on a range of correctional issues to senior correctional management and is responsible for a range of work primarily across prisons. Its responsibilities include state-wide oversight of A Safer Places to Work, a range of central functions, including operational policy development, review and amendment, convening and participating in state-wide managers' meetings, performance monitoring and reporting, incident reporting, responding to family violence information sharing requests, oversight of internal and external reviews and investigations, coordination of Corrections Victoria's responses to coronial matters and litigation, auditing, correspondence, prison outreach and implementation support and general advice to prisons and other departmental staff and internal and external stakeholders.
About the Role
The Projects Officer reports to the Senior Projects Officer, Statewide Operational Support and is responsible for effectively managing a range of requests and complaints by recording, investigating and verifying complaints, and preparing comprehensive written responses to complex verbal and written correspondence. The role will also involve a high level of liaison with key stakeholders and prison staff to gather information, as well as interpreting CV policies and procedures in order to respond effectively.
While the position is based at 121 Exhibition Street Melbourne, flexible work arrangements are available, and you may be required to travel to other locations based on business needs.
Some of your duties will include:
- Contribute to the management of the correspondence portfolio by recording correspondence, verifying complaints, responding to requests and providing comprehensive responses to complex verbal and written enquiries from people including those in custody, their families and legal representatives.
- Consult and liaise with key stakeholders and relevant prison staff to gather information about identified issues, to respond effectively to correspondence.
- Provide analysis and interpretation of information using relevant prison information systems such as PIMS and E Justice.
- Identify, investigate and analyse emerging issues and trends involving complex and sensitive correctional issues.
- Prepare and coordinate detailed briefings and reports for senior management that involve integrating complex information from a variety of sources with limited direction.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Sound knowledge and understanding of the Victorian correctional system, particularly prison operations, policies and procedures and functions of Corrections Victoria.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare complex written correspondence liaise and communicate effectively with stakeholders
Qualifications/requirements
- There are no mandatory qualifications for this role; however, experience and understanding of the prison system and guiding legislation and policy is desirable.
