About Us:

At Victoria University (VU), our aim is to be a global leader in dual-sector learning and research by 2028. Join us on the journey and help us achieve our strategic drives embedded in our Strategic Plan : Start well, finish brilliantly. One of the drivers "Thriving place to Study and Work" will enable us to continue to create places that our students and staff love to belong and feel immense pride.

About the Role

Are you ready to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of data governance and privacy at one of Australia's leading universities? As the Senior Manager, Information Governance & Privacy, you will be at the forefront of safeguarding Victoria University's most valuable asset—its data. This is not just a compliance role; it's a strategic leadership position that directly influences how the University leverages data responsibly to drive innovation, trust, and community engagement. As the designated Privacy Officer, you will provide expert guidance, champion privacy best practices, and lead transformative initiatives that protect individual rights and enhance institutional integrity. Collaborating across diverse teams, including key Indigenous units, you will embed cutting-edge privacy frameworks and elevate Victoria University's reputation as a leader in ethical data stewardship.

About the Person

We're seeking an exceptional leader with a proven track record in privacy and data governance, combined with a passion for driving organisational change at a strategic level. Ideally, you'll bring deep experience from higher education, government, or complex, multi-stakeholder environments where governance and privacy are critical priorities. You are a skilled communicator and influencer who thrives in building collaborative partnerships across diverse teams and senior leadership. Your expertise in privacy legislation and Indigenous Data Sovereignty will empower you to champion inclusive and culturally respectful data practices. If you're driven by the opportunity to shape a culture of accountability, innovation, and excellence in data governance while making a lasting impact on a prestigious institution, this is your chance to lead from the front.

Duties

In this influential role, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Spearheading the ongoing development, implementation, and enhancement of Victoria University's Information and Data Governance Framework to ensure robust, forward-thinking policies and practices.
  • Acting as the trusted point of contact for all privacy-related matters, including enquiries, complaints, and incident responses, ensuring swift and effective resolution.
  • Designing and delivering comprehensive privacy education and training programs tailored for University leaders and stakeholders, fostering a university-wide culture of privacy awareness and compliance.
  • Leading strategic oversight and governance through chairing or supporting the Data Governance Committee, aligning privacy and data governance initiatives with the University's broader mission and goals.
  • Partnering closely with Indigenous units to integrate Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles, ensuring that data management respects and upholds the rights and traditions of Indigenous communities.
