About the job

The Technical Enquiry Specialist plays a central role in managing, coordinating and resolving all technical enquiries received by the Growth Central Team.

This position acts as the interface between internal teams, customers and contractors, assessing technical information, applying engineering or operational expertise, and providing clear, timely guidance that supports decision-making.

The role ensures enquiries are handled in line with corporate frameworks, while also identifying risks, escalating issues appropriately and contributing to continual improvement. By collaborating closely with operational, engineering and customer-facing teams, the Technical Enquiry Specialist helps maintain the reliability of water and wastewater systems, supports consistent service delivery, and upholds organisational governance and safety expectations.

About the Person

The ideal Technical Specialist is someone who thrives in a fast-paced, detail driven environment and is confident handling a high volume of varied technical queries each day. They are skilled at analysing information quickly, interpreting engineering, operational and compliance requirements and turning complex details into clear, practical advice for colleagues, customers and contractors.

On a daily basis, this person reviews and triages enquiries, investigates issues by working with internal teams and technical specialists, prepares accurate responses and ensures each matter is managed in line with corporate frameworks and regulatory obligations.

They proactively identify risks, escalate concerns when required and track enquiry progress to ensure a timely resolution.

In addition, your responsibilities will include:

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day.

You will:

  • Collaborate effectively to ensure Growth External Enquiries team goals and KPIs are achieved by providing input into decision making and problem solving.
  • Act as the central point of contact for all technical aspects of growth-related enquires managed by the Growth Central Team.
  • Provide timely and accurate technical responses to customer growth enquiries (excl complex modelling) within agreed time frames.
  • Translate complex technical information into clear language for non-technical audiences.
  • Build and maintain an accessible data repository of technical information for each water and wastewater system, serving as the source of truth for growth-related enquiries.
  • Provide technical input to help develop a new risk and governance framework for Growth, ensuring business-wide risks and controls are visible for informed decision-making.
  • As Executive Officer for the Dispensation Review Committee (DRC), support the Committee by gathering, organising, and presenting technical information to help inform risk-based decisions, and communicate outcomes across the business.

Your success in this role will come from:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to build effective relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in a Science or Engineering based discipline or relevant demonstrated experience.
  • Ability to escalate enquiries when there is a potential of the deadline being missed.
  • Knowledge of water supply and wastewater systems, connections and operations.
  • Understanding of risk assessment and governance.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision and meet tight deadlines.
