About the Opportunity

As part of the City Operations Program, the Irrigation Technical Officer plays a key role in keeping Adelaide's parks and open spaces healthy, sustainable, and thriving. This hands-on and technical role coordinates the efficient operation, monitoring and development of irrigation and recycled water systems across the City of Adelaide, ensuring they're well maintained, water-smart, and fit for purpose.

Working closely with horticulture teams, designers, project managers and industry partners, the Irrigation Technical Officer designs and implements irrigation systems that enhance water efficiency, plant health and environmental outcomes. The role supports upgrades and new projects that align with Council's strategic goals and sustainability commitments, while identifying opportunities to innovate and introduce new technologies and methodologies.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys combining technical expertise with practical, on-the-ground problem solving. You'll provide advice, mentor staff on best-practice irrigation techniques, and help shape the future of Adelaide's green spaces by raising irrigation standards and improving overall plant and turf health.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • A Certificate IV in Irrigation Management or equivalent significant industry experience with comprehensive knowledge of irrigation practices.
  • Strong knowledge of irrigation design principles, with demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex irrigation plans.
  • Proven experience in operating and programming commercial irrigation controllers and in carrying out preventative maintenance on valves, sprinklers, wiring and PVC pipework.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate and deliver irrigation projects on time and within scope.
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to engage effectively with the public and community groups.
