Role Summary
As a Senior Project Manager – Overlay, you will play a pivotal leadership role in the successful delivery of major event infrastructure, specifically leading the Overlay team which includes Design, Build, Fit-Out, Services and Signage on the Australian Grand Prix Project, where your project role will be Overlay Manager. Reporting to the Project Director, you will provide strategic oversight across planning, coordination, procurement, and execution to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standard.
This role requires strong commercial acumen, exceptional leadership of multi-disciplinary teams, and the ability to manage high-value contracts in dynamic environments. You will act as a key client interface, supporting the Project Director in achieving program-wide objectives while driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Provide leadership and direction across multiple overlay streams and commodities
- Mentor and support Project Managers and Coordinators, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and high performance.
- Act as deputy to the Project Director when required, representing iEDM in client and stakeholder forums.
Contract & Supplier Management
- Oversee high-value supplier and contractor agreements, from procurement through delivery and reconciliation.
- Ensure supplier performance, compliance, and quality outcomes are achieved across all packages.
- Manage escalations and negotiations to maintain strong commercial relationships.
Programme & Scheduling
- Take a lead role in programme development and management across multiple commodities and overlay streams, ensuring integration and alignment with overall event timelines.
- Provide reporting and risk assessments to the Project Director, highlighting critical path activities and mitigation strategies.
- Oversee Overlay resource planning and allocation to ensure delivery efficiency.
Site & Operational Leadership
- Oversee site delivery across major event venues, ensuring compliance, safety, and quality standards.
- Support Site Managers and Safety teams as required in resolving issues swiftly to maintain project momentum.
- Champion best practice in presentation and operational readiness for all infrastructure delivered.
Commercial & Risk Management
- Contribute to budget forecasting, cost control, and financial reporting for major project components and investigations.
- Working with the commercial team ensure contract variation processes are followed and client approvals for scope adjustments obtained.
- Contribute to identifying, assessing, and managing project risks, implementing mitigation strategies in consultation with the Project Director.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a senior point of contact for clients, consultants, and key partners, ensuring expectations are met and exceeded.
- Manage communications across multiple stakeholders, balancing priorities and resolving conflicts constructively.
- Contribute to governance and reporting requirements for senior leadership and clients.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Drive lessons learned programs and implement continuous improvement initiatives across recurrent projects.
- Investigate new event infrastructure solutions, from feasibility through to delivery, to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
- Contribute to the refinement of iEDM's project management methodologies and compliance frameworks.
What You Bring
- Significant experience in project or program management within major events, construction, or infrastructure.
- Proven track record managing large-scale, multi-stakeholder projects with complex logistics.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor teams and manage upwards to executive stakeholders.
- Demonstrated expertise in commercial management, contract negotiation, and financial control.
- Advanced knowledge of project scheduling, risk management, and compliance frameworks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence managing senior client relationships.
- A proactive, solution-focused mindset with high attention to detail and delivery excellence.
