Primary objective

Provide high quality advice to the Chief Minister, departmental executives and government agencies, on communities-related

policy and reform issues affecting the Northern Territory and manage and undertake relevant policy development and analysis.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Support the Senior Executive Director with the development and implementation of communities-related priorities,

strategies and objectives as well as agency and public sector initiatives and projects, and work collaboratively with the Senior

Director Strategic Policy and Delivery – Economy and Lifestyle.

  1. Play a key role in the leadership, development, cross-agency coordination and implementation of policy initiatives and specific

projects.

  1. Develop and maintain effective collaborative partnerships and strategic alliances with colleagues and other stakeholders at

local and national levels.

  1. Prepare and review high level reports, briefings and correspondence, including Ministerial and Legislative Assembly Briefings,

policy analysis and Cabinet Submissions.

  1. Work collaboratively across government, seeking and providing expert advice as relevant to ensure alignment and

coordination in progressing the priorities of the NT Government across communities-related policy enablers.

  1. Represent the department and Northern Territory's interest at local and national forums as required.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated experience in dealing with complex reform- related matters relating to the communities portfolio, including

an understanding of contemporary issues facing the Northern Territory.

2. High level experience in undertaking and coordinating special projects, demonstrating strong strategic planning, leadership

and management skills.

3. Demonstrated experience in policy and analysis related to communities, justice, social or human services.

4. Highly developed strategic, conceptual and analytical skills with demonstrated understanding of complex legislative and

regulatory frameworks.

5. Demonstrated ability to liaise and work effectively with people at all levels in government and non-government agencies.

6. High level of motivation and the demonstrated ability to work alone and with others while under pressure including dealing

with changing priorities and deadlines.

7. Demonstrated commitment to flexible, innovative and problem-solving approaches to all aspects of the job.

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualifications in public policy, law or related field.
