Primary objective

This role is responsible forproviding strategic advice on local and national policy issues relating to education, and supporting

strategic and business planning, monitoring and reporting processes across the department.

Context statement

The Strategic Policy branch is responsible for managing strategic planning, policy and projects to assist the organisation to

improve its performance and deliver quality education services across the Northern Territory. This position, in the Strategy

and Governance team, provides a key role in the delivery of strategic planning, coordination and reporting. The position also

supports the development and implementation of policy frameworks and guidelines to ensure the department is compliant

with legislation, whole of government policies and achieves success through strong governance.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Coordinate strategic planning and reporting to enable monitoring of performance and outcomes linked to strategic

directions.

2. Provide coordination and support for the department's strategic and business planning process.

3. Research, analyse and provide strategic advice on diverse local and national public policy issues relating to the Northern

Territory education portfolio.

4. Support the end-to-end delivery of strategic policy and projects, including development, implementation, monitoring and

reporting.

5. Provide support to a small, but dynamic work unit to achieve its operational goals through a range of day to day

administrative and project-based tasks.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated experience in researching complex issues, collating, analysing and interpreting information including data

to evaluate options, make recommendations and prepare timely reports.

1. Demonstrated experience in project management processes, including the development and implementation of new

initiatives.

3. Demonstrated sound interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to write in a clear and concise

manner and ensure messages are appropriate to targeted audiences.

1. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective networks with a range of internal and external stakeholders,

including the ability to collaborate and interact effectively with people from diverse cultures

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualifications in public policy, governance, project management or a similar field.
