Campbelltown City Council is a thriving and progressive local government in South-West Sydney, committed to innovation, inclusion, and community impact. As one of the fastest-growing regions in NSW, Campbelltown is undergoing significant transformation, with major infrastructure, cultural, and sustainability initiatives shaping its future.
Chandler Macleod is proud to partner with Campbelltown City Council to recruit a Internal Audit Manager. This is a newly created leadership role reporting directly to the CEO. This is a rare opportunity to build and lead a high-impact internal audit function that supports governance, risk management, and continuous improvement across the organisation.

- Leading the internal audit function and mentoring the Internal Audit Officer.
- Designing and implementing Council's annual internal audit and business improvement program.
- Providing expert advice on internal controls, risk mitigation, and performance improvement.
- Supporting the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) and contributing to Council's governance framework.
- Managing relationships with external audit providers and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and accountability.
About You
We are seeking a strategic and collaborative leader with:
- Strong knowledge of the Local Government Act and public sector compliance.
- Proven ability to lead teams, influence senior stakeholders, and drive organisational improvement.
- Membership or certification with a recognised internal audit professional body.
- High-level analytical, communication, and report writing skills.
- Tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in internal auditing.
- Extensive experience in Local or State Government is desirable but candidates from the private sector would also be considered.
Why Campbelltown City Council?

- A values-driven culture focused on respect, integrity, teamwork, and optimism.
- A supportive and inclusive workplace with flexible work arrangements.
- Opportunities to contribute to major strategic initiatives and community outcomes.
- A commitment to professional development and continuous improvement.
This is your chance to shape a newly created function and make a lasting impact in a forward-thinking Council.
Additional Requirements:
- Police and bankruptcy checks will be required for the preferred applicant.
- Shortlisted candidates may be required to undergo psychometric testing.
